Our favorite domestic airline, Virgin America, turns six today, and we thought we’d celebrate with a post! Disclaimer: we are not affiliated with or sponsored by Virgin America; we just love them.
Six Reasons to Love Virgin America on its Sixth Birthday
1. A shared love for our planet.
Airlines have it tough. Fuel prices continue to rise, along with pressure from consumers to lower prices and to be environmentally friendly. While most other airlines are still evaluating their options, Virgin America is already implementing changes to help save the planet. We learned about this firsthand on a recent trip from San Francisco to LA during our taxi to the runway. While the other airlines taxi with both engines, Virgin America has begun taxiing with only one. This cuts fuel consumption in half! Sure, it creates some weird barking noises but we can live with that if it means helping the polar bears live, too.
2. Luxurious interiors.
We fly with Virgin America every chance we get. So it is always a shock when we fly with another airline and discover there is no purple mood lighting. There may not even be leather seats! Air travel is often the first and last part of a getaway. A flight with Virgin America infuses style and class into the memories of any trip.
3. In-flight tech.
In-flight wifi and modern in-flight entertainment systems might seem like trivial luxuries but, like luxurious interior amenities, can turn an otherwise mundane flight into a memorable experience. Virgin America passengers can even enjoy free seat-to-seat chat, which is great when your significant other is a few aisles away. We also love being able to order food and beverages on our personal touch screens.
4. Virgin America is funky.
From the moment the in-flight safety video begins to the moment the plane’s door opens after landing, it is clear Virgin America is not just another airline. Each flight we take is made unique by the personal updates from the captain and the lively interaction with the flight attendants.
5. A passion for adventure and travel.
Adventure and travel are undeniable parts of Virgin America’s business philosophy (the recent announcement of seat-to-seat drink delivery is an adventure in and of itself!). When we set out on a spontaneous weekend getaway earlier this year, it was with the help of Virgin America’s friendly ticketing staff. Sure, the staff were a bit surprised (I suppose it is rather rare for a young couple to walk up to the counter with no tickets, no plans, and no destination in mind!), but they eagerly helped us with personal tips and extra comfy seats. (Did you catch the tagline on the side of the plane in the above photo?)
6. Reasonable fares to exciting places.
As if reasons one through five were not enough, the sixth reason is surely enough to love Virgin America on its sixth birthday. Not only does Virgin America deliver high-tech, luxury air travel, but its prices are comparable to the other major airlines (and with the Virgin America Elevate rewards program, the prices are even lower). With all you get, why not grab a seat on Virgin America?
